Eduard Strauss was an Austrian composer and conductor who was born in Vienna on March 15, 1835. He was the youngest of the Strauss brothers, who were all famous composers and musicians in their own right. Eduard initially pursued a military career, but eventually joined his older brothers Johann II and Josef in the family business of composing and conducting music.

Eduard's music was often described as cheerful and light-hearted, with a focus on dance music such as waltzes, polkas, and marches. He had a particular talent for creating music that was easy for people to dance to, and his compositions quickly became popular throughout Vienna and beyond.

In addition to his work as a composer, Eduard was also a prominent conductor. He took over as conductor of the Strauss Orchestra after the death of his brother Josef and led the ensemble on tours throughout Europe.
