Eduard Rohde was a German composer born on 2 May 1828 in Anklam, Pomerania (now part of Germany). He studied music in Berlin and later moved to Paris to continue his studies under the tutelage of the renowned composer and pianist Franz Liszt. Rohde wrote a diverse range of music that included piano pieces, motets, part-songs, a sonata, instrumental and vocal works.

Rohde was best known for writing etudes , and his etudes were often included in the works of other composers. His etudes were well-received and helped establish him as a respected composer in his time. Some of his most famous etudes include "Etude on a Pentatonic Scale" and "Dream of Spring".

Rohde died on 21 October 1883 in Berlin, leaving behind a significant body of work that continues to be studied and performed today. His compositions, particularly his etudes, remain popular among piano students and are often used as study pieces in music schools and conservatories around the world.
