Edmond Audran (1840-1901) was a French composer known for his successful comic operas and operettas. He was born Achille Edmond Audran on April 12, 1840, in Lyon, France. Audran studied music at the Paris Conservatory, where he won several prizes for his compositions.
He first gained international recognition with his operetta "La cigale et la fourmi" in 1877 , and later went on to create several other successful works, including "La mascotte" in 1880, "Les noces d'Olivette" in 1879, and "Miss Helyett" in 1890.
Audran's music was known for its catchy melodies and lighthearted themes, which often featured romantic misunderstandings and comedic situations. He was a prolific composer, and his works were frequently performed in France and around the world during his lifetime.
In addition to his career as a composer, Audran was also a talented tenor and occasionally performed in his own works. He died on August 17, 1901, in Tierceville, Calvados, France, at the age of 61.
