While he is best known for his music career, Yoakam has also worked in film and TV as an actor and producer. His music genre is primarily country, but he has also incorporated elements of rockabilly, honky-tonk, and bluegrass into his work.

Yoakam has released numerous albums throughout his career, including "Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room," "Guitars , Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.," and "If There Was a Way." He has also written and composed many of his own songs, including "Ain't That Lonely Yet" and "Fast As You," which have become popular hits.

As a composer, Yoakam has also contributed to the soundtracks of various films and TV shows, such as the 1995 film "The Net," the animated movie "Gnomeo & Juliet," and the TV series "King of the Hill," in which he played the character of Buck Strickland and provided several songs for the show's soundtrack.
