Domenico Fischietti was an Italian composer who lived in the 18th century, although his exact birth and death dates are not known. He was known primarily for his operas, of which he wrote about 20. In addition to his operas, Fischietti also composed an oratorio titled La morte d'Abele in 1767 and a Magnificat.

Fischietti was a part of the Neapolitan school of composition, which was known for its focus on melody and vocal virtuosity. He wrote in the Italian comic opera style, which was popular in the 1730s and beyond. Other composers from the same era who wrote in this style include Gaetano Latilla, Baldassare Galuppi, and Ignazio Fiorillo.

Interestingly, Fischietti's work also includes a dramma giocoso, or "playful drama," titled Il dottor Balanzone, which features a prominent role for a doctor. This is notable because doctors were not common characters in operas at the time.

There is not much information available about Fischietti's life beyond his compositions. He served as Kapellmeister for the Schwarzenberg family, and at one point, Mozart wrote a petition to be released from his position as Kapellmeister so that he could take over the role.

Overall, while Fischietti may not be the most well-known composer today, his work as part of the Neapolitan school and his inclusion of unique characters in his operas make him noteworthy in the history of Italian opera.
