David Van Tieghem is an American composer, percussionist and sound designer, born on April 21, 1955. He is best known for his unique philosophy of utilizing any available object as a musical instrument, often referred to as "junk percussion". He has released several studio albums throughout his career, including Safety in Numbers in 1987 and Strange Cargo in 1996.

Van Tieghem has also worked on numerous sound designs for theater, dance, and film productions, including collaborations with renowned choreographer Twyla Tharp. He has been the recipient of the 2007 Guggenheim Fellowship in Music Composition , and his music and performance videos have been featured in museums and galleries around the world.

Aside from being a prolific musician, Van Tieghem has also worked as an actor and director, most notably in the 1989 Off-Broadway play "The Manson Family". He has also composed music for various television shows, such as "Sex and the City" and "The Sopranos".

Known for his unique approach to sound design and composition, David Van Tieghem has cemented his place as a respected figure in the world of music and performance art.
