Dane Rudhyar was an American composer, author, and humanistic astrologer. He was born on March 23, 1895, in Paris, France and moved to the United States in 1916 , where he soon became known as an ultra-modern composer whose ideas about music were well ahead of their time. Rudhyar was a pioneer in synthesizing a blend of Eastern and Western music.

While still in his teens, Rudhyar wrote a biography of Claude Debussy , which speaks to his early interest in music. He started his career just before World War I as a writer and composer , with his first works being published by the great publishing house of Durand in Paris. Rudhyar's music is known for its challenging style, incorporating elements of dissonance and complex rhythms. His music also reflects his interest in mysticism and astrology.

In addition to his work as a composer, Rudhyar was also an accomplished writer. He wrote extensively on music and astrology and is considered a major figure in the development of humanistic astrology, which emphasizes the potential for self-realization and personal growth through astrology.

Rudhyar died on September 13, 1985, leaving behind a legacy of innovative music and thought-provoking writings. His influence can still be seen in contemporary music and astrology.
