Cristobal Galan was a Spanish Baroque composer born in Madrid around 1630. He is known for his compositions of secular and sacred music, including villancicos, zarzuela, tonos humanos, and more. There is little known about his early life, but it is recorded that he was rejected as maestro de capilla in 1651.

Galan was mainly active in Salamanca, where he served as maestro de capilla at the New Cathedral from 1665 until his death in 1684. He was highly regarded as a composer during his lifetime and his works were frequently performed in the churches and courtly circles of Spain. Some of his most famous works include "Villancico de los Reyes Magos," "Hasta cuando, cruel amor," and his Stabat Mater, which is considered one of the finest examples of Spanish Baroque music.

The complete works of Galan were published in 11 volumes in the 20th century. He played an important role in the development of Spanish Baroque music, and his works continue to be appreciated and studied by scholars and music enthusiasts alike.
