From 1961, Mawby served as the Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral , where he contributed significantly to the music repertoire of the cathedral and introduced new styles and genres of music. Along with his work at Westminster Cathedral, Mawby held various noteworthy positions in the music industry, including conductor of the BBC Welsh Chorus and President of the Royal School of Church Music.
Mawby was a prolific composer, with over 500 published works to his name. He was a disciplined composer and worked hard to hone his craft. His music was not limited to choral works and also included orchestral, chamber, and solo pieces.
