Christoph Schaffrath (1709-1763) was a German composer and keyboard player of the Baroque and early Classical periods. He was born in Niederzimmern near Weimar in Germany and served as a musician at the court of Frederick the Great of Prussia in Berlin. Schaffrath was a prolific composer, known for both his instrumental and vocal music. He composed sonatas, concertos, and chamber music for keyboard and various other instruments. His music was notable for its elegance, clarity, and refined ornamentation. Schaffrath also wrote music for the theater, including operas and ballets. Some of his most famous works include his concertos for harpsichord and his Sonata in F major for flute and harpsichord. Schaffrath was highly regarded by his contemporaries, including composers Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Johann Joachim Quantz, and his music continues to be appreciated by modern audiences.
