Cesare Pugni was a prominent Italian composer known primarily for his work in ballet music. He was born on June 31st, 1802 and died on January 26th, 1870. Pugni was a pianist and violinist before he became known for his ballet composition.

He wrote more than 300 ballets in his life, which some believe makes him the most prolific ballet composer of all time. Some of his most famous works include "Esmeralda," "La Fille du Pharaon," and "The Little Humpbacked Horse." Pugni worked closely with famous choreographers such as Marius Petipa , Jules Perrot, and Arthur Saint-Leon.

In addition to his ballet works, Pugni composed operas, symphonies, and other forms of music. He made his debut as a composer at La Scala in 1826 with the opera "Elerz e Zulmida."

Although Pugni is remembered as a prominent figure in ballet music , his reputation was not always positive.
