Short bio Cesare Negri
Full biography Cesare Negri
Cesare Negri (c. 1535–c. 1605) was an Italian dancer , choreographer and composer from Milan. He was an active court choreographer for the nobility in Milan during the Renaissance period. Negri was the most famous dancing master in Europe, and he oversaw musical festivities in Milan. He wrote an important treatise on dance called "Le Grazie d'Amore," which was the first text on ballet theory to explain the five basic positions of the feet. The treatise also included descriptions of various steps, jumps and turns used in dance performances during that time. In addition to his contributions to dance theory, Negri was also a composer. Some of his compositions include "Il Bianco Fiore," a popular renaissance piece for guitar that is still performed and recorded today. Despite his significant contributions to dance and music, Cesare Negri's life remains somewhat of a mystery, and little is known about his personal life or the circumstances of his death.
