Carlo Cecere (1706-1761) was an Italian composer and violinist who lived during the Baroque period. He was born in Grottole, Italy and was known for his compositions for mandolin and violin. Cecere worked at the Royal Court in Naples, where he was responsible for the music of the court's ballet productions.
Cecere's surviving works include numerous sonatas and concertos for the mandolin, and he is considered one of the most important Italian composers for this instrument during the 18th century. His compositions are characterized by their lyrical and expressive melodies, which often feature intricate passages and ornamentation.
In addition to the mandolin and violin, Cecere also composed works for other instruments, including the harpsichord and the cello. His music has been published in various collections, including "Musik für Mandoline" and the "Gimo music collection."
Cecere passed away on February 15, 1761, in Naples at the age of 54. Despite being relatively obscure today, his music continues to be performed and studied by musicians and musicologists interested in the repertoire of the mandolin during the Baroque period.
