Carl Millocker (also spelled as Millcker) was an Austrian composer of operettas who lived from 1842 to 1899. He was born in Vienna, Austria, to a goldsmith father. Millocker studied the flute at the Vienna Conservatory, and after graduation, he started his career as a conductor in Vienna. He soon gained success as a composer of operettas, with his first success being the opera "Diana" in 1867 at the Harmonie Theater.

In the 1870s and 1880s, Millocker became one of the most widely performed composers of operettas in Vienna. He wrote 20 light operas , of which 16 are described as operettas, including "The Beggar Student," "Gasparone," and "Der arme Jonathan." His most successful works were known for their catchy tunes, lively dance rhythms, and charming melodies.

Apart from being a composer, Millocker also worked as a conductor, directing performances at the Theater an der Wien and the Carltheater in Vienna. He also wrote music for the soundtracks of films, such as "The Beggar Student" and "The Dubarry."
