Carl Beines (1833-1913) was a renowned German vocal pedagogue and voice teacher who trained many famous opera singers. He was born in Kleve, Germany, and studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels where he learnt to play the violin. He later studied singing and piano in Paris and became a pupil of the famous Italian singing teacher Francesco Lamperti. In 1859, Beines went to Frankfurt am Main to establish a private singing school, which quickly gained a reputation as one of the leading vocal schools in Germany.
Beines' teaching methods were highly respected, and he was known for his ability to develop the voices of both male and female singers. He emphasized proper breathing, diction, and posture, and strove for a natural sound that emphasized the individuality of the singer. Some of his famous students include Richard Tauber, Leo Slezak, Margarete Matzenauer, Heinrich Schlusnus, and Emanuel List.
