Bo Holten is a Danish composer and conductor who is noted for his inventive counterpoint and melodic writing. He studied musicology and bassoon, and as a conductor and composer, he has made significant contributions to the classical music scene. His music spans across different genres, including opera, choral music, and lyric theatre.
One of his notable works is the opera Schlagt sie tot!, which was premiered in 2017. The opera incorporates music and words from several psalms written by Martin Luther, as well as Holten's original composition.
Holten has also composed numerous choral works, including Dominus regit me, a setting of Psalm 23, which was written for a booklet with settings by various composers. He has collaborated with vocal ensemble Musica Ficta, which he founded in 1996, and with whom he has realized several projects. In addition, he has conducted various orchestras, including the Ars Nova Copenhagen and the Flemish Radio Choir.
Throughout his career, Holten has received several awards, including the Carl Nielsen Prize and two Danish Music Awards. He remains an active and respected figure in the international music community, and his contributions to the world of classical music continue to be celebrated.
