Bernhard Scholz (1835-1916) was a German composer and conductor of the Romantic era. He was born in Meissen, Germany and showed an early interest in music, studying the piano and organ from a young age. He later studied at the Leipzig Conservatory under Ignaz Moscheles and Felix Mendelssohn, and eventually became the director of music in Breslau (now Wrocław, Poland).
Scholz was known for his romantic style, which drew inspiration from the Austro-German musical tradition. He composed a number of works, including operas, symphonies, concertos, and chamber music. Some of his most famous works include his Piano Concerto No. 1 in F minor and his Symphony No. 1 in E flat major.
Scholz was also a respected conductor and held positions at several important music institutions, including the Berlin Opera and the Royal Court Orchestra in Dresden. He was known for his strict yet sensitive approach to conducting, and was widely respected by his peers and colleagues.
Although Scholz's music is not as widely performed today as that of some of his contemporaries, he was an important figure in the Romantic era and his contributions to music continue to be appreciated by scholars and enthusiasts alike.
