Short bio Bernhard Molique
Full biography Bernhard Molique
Bernhard Molique was a German composer and violinist who lived between 1802 and 1869. He was born in Nuremberg and began his musical education with his father, who was also a violinist. Later, he studied with the famous violinist Louis Spohr and the composer Johann Nepomuk Hummel.
Molique was a prolific composer who wrote in many different genres, including orchestral music, chamber music, and vocal works. He was especially known for his violin concertos and his chamber music, including eight string quartets and two piano trios. Molique's music shows the influence of Mozart , Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Spohr, among others.
Molique was a child prodigy who made his debut as a violinist at the age of nine. He later toured throughout Europe as a violin soloist and settled in London as a conductor and composer. He was active in the musical life of London, conducting concerts and composing for the theater.
Today, however, Molique is largely forgotten, and his music is rarely performed. Nevertheless, his contributions to the repertoire for violin and chamber music are significant, and his works are worth exploring for those interested in 19th-century music.
