Bernard Zweers (1854-1924) was a Dutch composer and music teacher , known for his contributions to the Dutch musical scene. He was born as Bernardus Josephus Wilhelmus Zweers in Amsterdam , Netherlands and pursued music despite initial skepticism from his father, who was a music dealer and amateur musician.

Zweers studied music at the Amsterdam Conservatory and later in Leipzig and Berlin. He was heavily influenced by the Romantic movement in music and his compositions often featured lyrical melodies and a rich orchestration. Zweers also had a keen interest in incorporating Dutch musical traditions into his compositions.

Along with being a composer, Zweers was also a music teacher. He taught at various music schools across the Netherlands and had a significant impact on the development of Dutch music education during the early 20th century.

Some of Zweers' notable works include the opera "Gisbertus of Aemstel," which is based on a historical play by Joost van den Vondel, and the symphonic poem "Veluwe." His music was also featured on the balconies of the Main Hall of the Concertgebouw, a prestigious concert venue in Amsterdam.

Zweers was married to Dora de Louw, who was a soprano. Despite his contributions to Dutch music, his reputation declined in the years following his death. However, his music remains an important part of Dutch musical heritage and is still performed and studied today.
