Bent Lorentzen was a Danish composer who was born on October 5, 1935, in Aarhus, Denmark, and passed away on October 3, 2018. He was a prolific and highly respected composer whose work encompassed orchestral, choral, electronic, and opera music.

Lorentzen's compositions often explored the relationship between music and how it can be used to express human emotions and experiences. His work was recognized with several international awards, including the Nordic Council Music Prize in 2003. Lorentzen was also honored as Choral Composer of the Year in Denmark in 1989.

In addition to his work as a composer , Lorentzen was also dedicated to educating the next generation of musicians. He wrote compositions specifically for the youth of today, and he taught at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, where he inspired and mentored many aspiring composers.

Lorentzen embodied an anti-dogmatic approach to music, which made his music stand out in the contemporary music scene. He was a true innovator, always pushing the boundaries of what was considered possible, and his music will continue to inspire generations to come.
