Benjamin Dwyer is an Irish composer, guitarist, and musicologist, born on 3 August 1965. He is known for creating innovative and experimental music across a range of genres, from classical to free improvisation. As a composer, Dwyer has produced a large body of work, which includes pieces for orchestra, chamber ensemble, and solo instruments. He is also a virtuoso guitarist, whose playing spans both contemporary classical music and free improvisation.
Aside from his musical activities, Dwyer is also an accomplished writer and educator, having authored several books on music and contributed numerous academic articles to journals around the world. He is currently a Professor of Music at Middlesex University in London and is a member of Aosdána , an Irish association of artists.
Dwyer's musical works have been performed in many prestigious venues around the world, including the National Concert Hall in Dublin, the Wigmore Hall in London, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. He has also collaborated with a diverse range of musicians, including the Arditti Quartet, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, and free jazz pioneer Ornette Coleman.
