Beatriz de Dia was a 12th century composer, poet, and troubadour from Occitania, in what is now southern France. She is believed to have been born into a noble family and was a member of the court of the Count of Ventadorn.

Beatriz is known for her lyric poems and songs, which were written in the Occitan language. She wrote in the style of the troubadours, who were medieval composers and performers who sang about courtly love and chivalry. Her songs were known for their musical complexity, often featuring intricate melodies and multiple voice parts.

One of Beatriz's most famous compositions is the song "A chantar m'er de so qu'eu no volria" ("I must sing of that which I would rather not"), which expresses her sorrow and frustration at being separated from her lover. The song is notable for its use of the descort form, a challenging type of poetry that requires the use of complex rhyme schemes and varied stanza lengths.

Beatriz's poetry and music were highly regarded in her time, and she was celebrated by her contemporaries as one of the most talented troubadours of her generation. Despite the fact that her work was widely recognized during her lifetime, however, very little of it has survived to the present day.

Nevertheless, Beatriz de Dia remains an important figure in the history of music and poetry, and her legacy as one of the few known female troubadours continues to inspire and fascinate scholars and music lovers alike.
