Full biography Bartholomäus Gesius
Bartholomäus Gesius, also known as Bartholomus Gesius or Bartholomaus Gesius, was a German theologian, church musician, composer, and hymn writer who lived from approximately 1562 to 1613. He worked at Schloss Muskau and in Frankfurt an der Oder as a Kantor. Gesius wrote almost exclusively for the church and is known for his hymns and compositions. Some of his famous compositions include "Nun freut euch, lieben Christen gmein," "Der Tag der ist so freudenreich," and "Herzliebster Jesu, was hast du verbrochen". His work has been published in various hymnals, including the Evangelical Lutheran Hymnal and the Lutheran Book of Worship. Gesius was a prolific composer and is regarded as an important figure in German church music of the 16th and 17th centuries. His hymns are still sung in churches around the world.
