Arnolt Schlick was a renowned German Renaissance musician and composer. He was born in Heidelberg, Germany, around 1460 and passed away in Kassel, Germany, in 1521. Schlick was famous for his musical compositions and his landmark publication, "Spiegel der Orgelmacher und Organisten," which was one of the first printed music books.
Schlick's compositions were versatile and covered a wide range of musical genres, including hymns, motets, and instrumental music. His most notable compositions include "Tabulaturen etlicher Lobgesang," a collection of Lutheran hymns, and "Buchlein von der Tantz," which was a compilation of dance music.
Schlick was also an accomplished organist, and his compositions were often featured in the repertoire of other well-known organists of the time. He was appointed as an organist for the Elector of the Palatinate in Heidelberg and later worked as an organist for John II, Duke of Cleves.
In addition to his musical achievements, Schlick was also an expert in making and repairing organs, and his expertise in this field was highly respected. His publication "Spiegel der Orgelmacher und Organisten" was a comprehensive guide for organ builders and organists and included detailed instructions on the construction and tuning of organs.
