Arnoldus Christiaan Vlok van Wyk was a celebrated South African composer , born on April 26, 1916. He passed away on March 27, 1983, leaving behind a significant body of work that continues to be celebrated by music enthusiasts around the world. He belonged to the first notable generation of art music composers from South Africa.

Van Wyk's career in music began in earnest in the 1940s after he received a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
