Arkady Dmitriyevich Filippenko (1912-1983) was a Soviet Ukrainian composer who made significant contributions to the Ukrainian music scene. He was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and studied at the Lysenko Music Institute, where he was mentored by the famous Ukrainian composer Mykola Vilinsky.

Filippenko's works are characterized by a romantic, expressive style and often incorporate Ukrainian folk themes and rhythms. He wrote a variety of compositions, including orchestral music, chamber music, songs, and works for choir. Notably, he was one of the organizers of the Ukrainian Composers Union and served as its executive secretary and vice-president in the mid-1950s. He was also involved in the education of young musicians and worked as a professor at the Kyiv Conservatory.

Among his notable works are his String Quartet No. 3 and his Toccata for piano. He also wrote several children's operas and games, showcasing his diverse range of compositional abilities. Filippenko's music has been praised for its melodic beauty and emotional depth.

Despite his contributions to Ukrainian music, Filippenko was not as well-known internationally as some of his contemporaries. However, his legacy continues to have an impact on Ukrainian music, particularly in the realm of chamber music.
