Full biography Antonin Kammel
Antonin Kammel (also spelled Antonn Kammel) was a Czech composer and violinist who lived from 1730 to 1784. He spent much of his career in Britain, where he worked as a musician and music teacher. Kammel is known for his instrumental music, which was mostly written for strings.
Recently, a newly discovered portrait was identified as depicting Kammel, which was previously unknown to the public. The portrait was painted by the British artist Thomas Gainsborough, and it is believed to be worth around $1.3 million. Kammel is depicted in the portrait holding a musical score, wearing a green jacket.
In addition to his work as a musician and composer, Kammel was also known for his letters, in which he frequently expressed his frustrations with the music industry. He wrote to a friend once saying, "I'm sick of Portraits" which suggests his reluctance towards getting his own portrait painted.
Overall, Antonin Kammel was an important figure in the music world of the 18th century, particularly in Britain where he spent much of his career. Despite his relative obscurity today, his contributions to instrumental music for strings remain noteworthy and worthy of study.
