Anton Schweitzer was a German composer who lived from 1735 to 1787. He was born in Coburg and died in St. Petersburg, Russia. While he was once an esteemed composer in his time, relatively little is known about him today.

Schweitzer is best known for his operas, which were written in the German language. His most famous work is his opera "Alceste," with a libretto by Christoph Martin Wieland ). It was commissioned by Abel Seyler for the Weimar Court Theatre and was first performed in 1773. Some of his other notable works include "Die Indianer in England," "Die Dorfschule," and "Donna Galatea."
