Full biography Anton Fils

photo Anton Fils

Anton Fils was a German composer and cellist of the Baroque era, born in Eichstätt, Bavaria in 1733. He was the son of Johann Georg Fils, a musician who served as a cellist in the court chapel of Eichstätt. Anton Fils followed in his father's footsteps and eventually became a well-known musician in his own right.

Fils spent most of his career working in Mannheim, one of the most important musical centers of the 18th century, where he played cello in the court orchestra. He was also a prolific composer, known for his chamber music and symphonies, which were highly regarded in his time.

One of Fils' most famous works is his Symphony in D major, which was written in the mid-1700s. This piece is a beautiful example of the galant style, a musical style that was popular in Europe in the 18th century. It is characterized by light, elegant melodies and simple harmonies, and is often associated with the Rococo art movement.

In addition to his symphonies, Fils also composed a number of chamber works, including sonatas for cello and continuo, and string quartets. These compositions are marked by their clear, concise melodies, and their beautiful use of counterpoint.

Fils' career was cut short, however, when he died suddenly in Mannheim in 1760, at the age of just 27. Despite his short life, Fils left behind a rich legacy of musical compositions, which continue to be enjoyed and appreciated by music lovers today.
