Short bio Andre Boucourechliev
Full biography Andre Boucourechliev
André Boucourechliev (1925-1997) was a French composer born in Sofia, Bulgaria. He was known for his experimental works that often incorporated aleatory (chance) techniques. Boucourechliev was also a trained pianist and musicologist, and was interested in exploring the intersections between music and other art forms such as literature and visual art.
He studied at the National Conservatory in Paris and continued his education with Max Deutsch, a pupil of composer Arnold Schoenberg. Boucourechliev's early works were influenced by the musique concrète movement, which experimented with the use of recorded sounds in music.
In the 1960s, Boucourechliev developed his own style of music that he called "open form," which allowed for greater flexibility in performance and interpretation. This style was characterized by the use of graphic notation, which allowed the performer to interpret the music in a variety of ways. Boucourechliev's works often incorporated unusual instrumental combinations, such as voice and percussion or prepared piano and tape.
Boucourechliev was a prolific composer and his works were performed by major orchestras and ensembles around the world. His notable works include "Archipel I" for ensemble, "Texte III" for voice and instrumental ensemble, and "Tracés d'ombres" for piano and orchestra.
Aside from his work as a composer, Boucourechliev was also a musicologist, writing extensively on contemporary music and serving as a professor of composition at the Paris Conservatory. He was a key figure in the French avant-garde of the 20th century and made significant contributions to the development of experimental music.

Xenakis - Mists
Composed in 1980 for Roger Woodward, Mists is the third of Xenakis's mature piano solo compositions.
The linear material which alternates with the "mists" is frighteningly complex rhythmically. Unlike evryali, where the melodic curves "snap" to a grid of
