Alexandre Pierre-Francois Boly (1785-1858) was a French composer, organist, pianist, and violist. He was born in Versailles and was a renowned pianist, writing numerous works for piano, including sonatas, nocturnes, and other smaller works. He was also an accomplished organist and wrote numerous works for the organ, as well as works for chamber ensembles and solo instrumental works.
Boly was one of the first composers to fully embrace the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, and his style was heavily influenced by the German composer. He was particularly interested in the fugue form, and his organ works often feature complex polyphonic textures and intricate thematic development.
Despite his significant contributions to music in the 19th century, Boly's music remains relatively unknown today. However, his works are still performed by organists and other musicians who appreciate his unique voice and the technical demands of his compositions.
