Alexander Voormolen (1895-1980) was a Dutch composer, conductor, and music librarian. He was born on March 3, 1895 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Voormolen studied composition with Willem Pijper at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. He was also heavily influenced by the French composers, especially Maurice Ravel. His style represents a mixture of French and Dutch influences.
Voormolen often wrote music for ballet and film. He wrote the music for several Dutch films during the 1930s and 1940s. He also composed a number of works for the concert hall, including two suites, Baron Hop Suites No. 1 and No. 2, which are considered to be his most famous works. The Baron Hop Suites are written in a neo-classical style and feature catchy melodies and lively rhythms.
In addition to his career as a composer, Voormolen was also a conductor and music librarian. He worked as a conductor for several orchestras in the Netherlands, including the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague. He also served as the principal music librarian at the Royal Library in The Hague for many years.
Voormolen's music is characterized by its colorful orchestration, lyrical melodies and lively rhythms. He was a prominent figure in Dutch music during the first half of the 20th century and continues to be respected and admired by many musicians and music lovers today.
