Aime Maillart (1817-1871) was a French opera composer who is known for his work "Les Dragons de Villars". Born on May 26 , 1817, in Montpellier, France, Maillart was a talented musician from a young age. He received his initial music education from his father Jean Maillart and went on to study at the Paris Conservatoire under Fromental Halévy.

Maillart's most famous work, "Les Dragons de Villars", premiered in 1856 and became an instant success. The opera tells the story of a young girl who falls in love with a soldier who is quartered with her family. However, the soldier is forced to leave when his regiment is called to war. "Les Dragons de Villars" is known for its catchy tunes and its portrayal of 18th-century French rural life.

In addition to "Les Dragons de Villars", Maillart composed several other operas , including "Lola Montez" and "Les Monténégrins". He was also known for his talent as an orchestral composer and wrote several overtures and symphonies.

Despite his success as a composer, Maillart's life was not without hardship. He suffered from poor health for much of his life and died at the age of 54 on May 26, 1871. However, his music continues to be performed and enjoyed to this day, and he is remembered as a talented and influential composer in the history of French opera.
