Short bio Adolf von Henselt
Full biography Adolf von Henselt
Adolf von Henselt (1814-1889) was a German composer and pianist known for his incredible virtuosity and Romantic-era compositions. He was born in the Bavarian town of Schwabach and studied piano with renowned pianist Johann Hummel. Henselt's playing was praised by Franz Liszt, who called him the "greatest living pianist".
Henselt's compositions, which include overtures, nocturnes, etudes, and concertos, showcase his technical abilities and melodious style. His most famous work is probably his Piano Concerto in F minor, which was largely forgotten after his death until it was rediscovered in the 20th century.
While Henselt enjoyed great success as a pianist and composer during his lifetime, his music fell out of favor after his death. However, his influence on subsequent generations of pianists cannot be overstated, and he was an important figure in the development of Romantic-era piano music.
In addition to his musical career, Henselt was known to have been quite the ladies' man, with multiple love affairs and scandals swirling around him throughout his life. Despite this, he remained a respected figure in the music world, and his contributions to the piano repertoire continue to be celebrated by musicians and audiences alike.
