two-line

Under the Helmholtz Octave Designation System, a name applied to the octave which extends from C2 in the middle of the treble clef staff to B2 above the treble clef staff. The notes are indicated by lowercase letters with the superscript "2" (c2, d2, e2, f2, g2, a2, and b2).

This octave can also be designated with two hash marks (e.g. C'') or in the fifth octave with Scientific Pitch Notation (SPN) using uppercase letters with octave "5" (C5, D5, E5, F5, G5, A5, and B5). This is also known as American Standard Pitch Notation (ASPN) and was defined by the Acoustical Society of America.

The MIDI Octave Designation System has two versions, one where note 1 (8.176 Hz) is octave "0" making the two-line octave the sixth octave (e.g. C6), and the other with note 1 (8.176 Hz) at octave "-2" making the two-line octave the fourth octave (e.g. C4).

The indication 8va (shown below) can be used to represent the same pitches.

See the table of octave designations in the Appendix.

Lines give us the backbone of each note, they tell musicians how loud or soft to play, they illustrate the shape of musical phrases, and they give information about how different instruments relate to one another.

A repeat barline symbol is drawn with a double barline and two dots - one above and one below - the middle line of the staff. Most often you'll see two repeat barline symbols – one marking the beginning of the section to repeat and one marking the end.

A double vertical bar ⟨||⟩ or ⟨ǁ⟩ is the standard caesura mark in English literary criticism and analysis. It marks the strong break or caesura common to many forms of poetry, particularly Old English verse.

Bar line (or barline) Bar lines separate measures ("bars") of music according to the indicated time signature. They sometimes extend through multiple staves to group them together when a grand staff is used or when indicating groups of similar instruments in a conductor's score.

Single bar line: A single vertical line that indicates the end of one bar and the beginning of another. 2. Double bar line: Two side-by-side vertical lines, indicating the end of one section and the beginning of another. 3. End bar lines: Two vertical lines, the second line thicker than the first.

One line would mean eighth-notes alternating. Two lines would mean sixteenths. Three lines means 32nds. In practical use, three lines means "fast notes, not necessarily 32nds". This is especially true in drum rolls.

In modern notation, a breve is commonly represented in either of two ways: by a hollow oval note head, like a whole note, with one or two vertical lines on either side, as on the left and right of the image, or as the rectangular shape also found in older notation, shown in the middle of the image.

Logical OR operator: || The logical OR operator ( || ) returns the boolean value true if either or both operands is true and returns false otherwise. The operands are implicitly converted to type bool before evaluation, and the result is of type bool . Logical OR has left-to-right associativity.

The most common way to represent the absolute value of a number or expression is to surround it with the absolute value symbol: two vertical straight lines. |6| = 6 means “the absolute value of 6 is 6.” |–6| = 6 means “the absolute value of –6 is 6.” |–2 – x| means “the absolute value of the expression –2 minus x.”

The distance between two bar lines is called a measure. DOUBLE BAR LINES, one thin and one thick, show the end of a piece.

The core of a music chart is the "staff". The staff consists of five horizontal lines separated by small vertical lines into measures. Each measure contains music notation information and the length of the measures is determined by the time signature of the song or piece.
