Stimmung

The German word Stimmung [ˈʃtɪmʊŋ] has several meanings, including "tuning" and "mood". The word is the noun formed from the verb stimmen, which means "to harmonize, to be correct", and related to Stimme (voice).

The term Stimmung derives from the root Stimme (voice), related to the Old Greek stoma (mouth). Despite this original reference to the human body and expression, the abstract noun Stimmung was first used with reference to musical instruments.

The definition of stim The word stim is short for self-stimulation. It is most commonly associated with autism.

Notes in a melody are often described by the intervals between them, using a movement-based metaphor. An interval can be a "step" (neighboring notes in a scale--which are sometimes considered to be steps on a ladder) or a "leap," when the interval is larger than a single step.

The most basic definition of “singing in tune” is “matching pitch”. This means that you can sing the right note at the right moment in the melody. If the melody goes C D E F G, you should be able to match each pitch in that ascending line. The other component of singing in tune is intonation.

Stimming – or self-stimulatory behaviour – is repetitive or unusual body movement or noises. Stimming might include: hand and finger mannerisms – for example, finger-flicking and hand-flapping. unusual body movements – for example, rocking back and forth while sitting or standing.

In a crowded restaurant, a child with ASD might feel overwhelmed by the noise, and stimming would help them to ignore the loud sounds. Dr. Mary Barbera, a board certified behavior analyst, equates stimming to the activities we might do in our leisure time, such as playing an instrument or a sport.

Melody. We might consider melody to be the single most important element within a song. In everyday language, this is the element we call 'the tune'. In technical terms, however, the melody is a series of pitches, or notes, that are organised to form a shape or pattern.
