A stave or staff refers to a set of 5 horizontal lines on which notes are written in musical notation. The staff helps determine the pitch of the musical notes. Notes and rests are placed on the lines or in between the lines of the stave. The stave is used along with a clef, which is a symbol at the beginning of the stave that shows which lines correspond to which notes.
