Meaning of staccatissimo in musicStaccatissimo is an extreme form of staccato articulation in music. It indicates that the notes should be played very detached and separated, much more so than a regular staccato. Notes under a staccatissimo marking are to be cut very short, around 1/4 to 1/3 of the written note length.
Staccatissimo is notated in a few different ways:
- Little pikes or wedges above or below the notes, depending on the stem direction - The word "staccatissimo" written above the staff- Staccato dots accompanied by the word "staccatissimo"
The goal is to achieve a very clipped, detached sound that separates the notes as much as possible. Staccatissimo can give music a perky, bouncy, and articulate feel.
A style of playing notes in a detached, separated, distinct manner that shortens the notated duration of the note in a more exaggerated way than normal staccato. Staccatissimo is indicated by solid wedge directly above or below the notehead.
