Meaning of sostenido Sostenido in Spanish means "sharp" in music terminology. In the solfege system (do re mi fa so la ti do), adding a sostenido after a note raises it by a semitone. So:

- *Do* is the tonic - *Do sostenido* or *Do♯* is a half step higher than *Do*, raising the pitch.
