Meaning of sextet in music
A **sextet**. In classical chamber music, smaller ensembles are called sextets based on the number of musicians in the group:
- Duet: Two performers - Trio: Three performers- Quartet: Four performers- **Sextet**: Six performers- Septet: Seven performers
Common **sextets** in classical music include string sextets with two violins, two violas and two cellos. There are also woodwind sextets consisting of oboes, clarinets and bassoons.
A performing ensemble of six solo instrumentalists or vocalists. Also, a composition written for an ensemble of six performers.
