With this tension and resolution concept, the focus is on the emphasis of a conventional or an unconventional tension note, its placement in the measure, the specific beat on which it occurs, and how long it is sustained. The improviser should be aware of the resolution tendencies of some particular tensions.

In its simplest terms, chord resolution is about bringing a chord journey (the chord progression) "home", usually back to where you began the progression. This is often referred to as a cadence. Resolution is one function that gives songs a sense of purpose and meaning.

First, "Unresolved" is equivalent to a NULL value or an empty field; aka "this issue is not resolved." Any value in the Resolution (e.g. "Not Resolved," "Done," etc) indicates the issue is resolved.

The climax is the most exciting part of a story. It is the turning point. The resolution is the part of a story in which the action falls. This is often referred to as the falling action.
