A group of five notes each having equal duration, but fitting into the duration of four, or another number of notes and indicated by the number 5 above or below the notes. Often a bracket is used to group these notes together.

8th note quintuplets consist of 5 strokes played evenly over 2 beats, and quarter note quintuplets are 5 strokes played evenly over 4 beats.
So a quintuplet (quintolet or pentuplet indicated with the numeral 5 means that five of the indicated note value total the duration normally occupied by four (or, as a division of a dotted note in compound time, three), equivalent to the second higher note value.

A time signature of 4/4 means count 4 (top number) quarter notes (bottom number) to each bar. So the pulse, or beat, is counted 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on. That means all the notes in each bar must add up to 4 quarter notes.
A quintet is a group containing five members. It is commonly associated with musical groups, such as a string quintet, or a group of five singers, but can be applied to any situation where five similar or related objects are considered a single unit.
The 5 refers to five quarter notes played in each musical bar. So, as each bar or cycle of the music goes around, there are five quarter notes on top. Or, to put it another way, the 5/4 time signature uses five quarter notes in one measure.

The Dionne quintuplets
The Dionne quintuplets (French pronunciation: [djɔn]; born May 28, 1934) are the first quintuplets known to have survived their infancy. The identical girls were born just outside Callander, Ontario, near the village of Corbeil. All five survived to adulthood. The Dionne girls were premature.
