Officer's Call

"Officers' Call" is a bugle call which signals all officers to assemble at a designated place.

A bugle call is a short tune, originating as a military signal announcing scheduled and certain non-scheduled events on a military installation, battlefield, or ship. Historically, bugles, drums, and other loud musical instruments were used for clear communication in the noise and confusion of a battlefield.

PURPOSE OF BUGLE CALLS FIRST CALL - Sounded as a warning for Soldiers to begin assembling for a formation. REVEILLE - Signals the Soldiers to awaken for morning roll call and accompanies the raising of the National Flag. RECALL - Signals that the present period of physical training, duties, or drill is over.

"Reveille" (US: /ˈrɛvəli/ REV-əl-ee, UK: /rɪˈvæli/ ri-VAL-ee), called in French "Le Réveil" is a bugle call, trumpet call, drum, fife-and-drum or pipes call most often associated with the military; it is chiefly used to wake military personnel at sunrise.

There are three Company Grade officer ranks. All three are addressed as “Sir or Ma'am” (depending on their gender) when speaking directly to them either in person, on the phone, or in correspondence (email). If talking about them to another Soldier, they are addressed by their rank followed by their last name.

The abbreviation would be "OFF", "Ofc.", "Off.", or "OFFR".

Taps The powerful sound of a bugler playing “Taps” is a call to remember those who gave their lives in the service of the United States. Born of a French bugle call, the melody we know as “Taps” was rearranged and used during the Civil War as a call for lights out.

The Ceremonial Bugle ... is a dignified method of playing Taps at a military funeral when a live bugler is not available for military funeral ceremonies. It was developed in order to provide a solemn visual image and as an alternative to the playing of a recorded version of Taps on a CD/cassette player.

Generally you just go with “Sir" when there is only one officer around, though it's not unheard if to use the rank. It's considered more respectful to call an O-6 through O-10 (Colonel through General in the USA, USMC, USAF. Captain through Admiral in the USN/USCG) by their rank instead of just “sir".
