A knock at the door is the sound that someone hears when another person hits a door with their knuckles. He knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer. You have to knock on the door because the doorbell is broken. He walked up to the door and knocked (on it).

It's everywhere bluegrass music jazz. And of course cartoons. It's in Sinatra tunes. And even musicals.

"Shave and a Haircut" and the associated response "two bits" is a seven-note musical call-and-response couplet, riff or fanfare popularly used at the end of a musical performance, usually for comedic effect. It is used melodically or rhythmically, for example as a door knock.

The tune originated from a song written in 1899 by Charles Hale called “At a Darktown Cakewalk”. Did you catch the rhythm? It came to be called, “Shave and a haircut, two bits,” and was most often used at the end of a piece of music for comic effect.

It is a knock-on when a player, in tackling or attempting to tackle an opponent, makes contact with the ball and the ball goes forward. Sanction: Scrum (if the ball goes into touch, the non-offending team may opt instead for a quick-throw or lineout).

Knocking is polite, patient and gentle. One cannot obviously break the door by just hitting it with their knuckles. Rapping, on the other hand, is hard, impolite, and usually does when someone is in much hurry or anger.

A knock-on occurs when a player loses ball possession, or contacts the ball with a hand or arm, and the ball goes forward to touch the ground or another player before this player gains, or regains, possession. Forward means towards the opposing team's dead ball line.
