Figur

A musical figure or figuration is the shortest idea in music; a short succession of notes, often recurring. It may have melodic pitch, harmonic progression, and rhythmic meter.

a. : a geometric form (such as a line, triangle, or sphere) especially when considered as a set of geometric elements (such as points) in space of a given number of dimensions. a square is a plane figure. b. : bodily shape or form especially of a person.

A physically attractive woman is said to have a nice figure. We also say that a prominent person is a well-known figure. The word also can refer to a number, as in "a dollar figure." As a verb, the word suggests deciphering, as when you figure something out.

A dictionary says: Figure: a symbol for a number. Digit: a word, letter, symbol, or figure representing a number. Number: a mathematical unit used to count or express an amount, quantity.

Etymology. From Middle English figure, borrowed from Old French figure, from Latin figūra (“form, shape, form of a word, a figure of speech, Late Latin a sketch, drawing”), from fingō (“to form, shape, mold, fashion”), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰeyǵʰ- (“to mold, shape, form, knead”).

In music, the term “melodic figure” refers to the smaller groups, gestures, or patterns that make up a melody.

The <figure> tag specifies self-contained content, like illustrations, diagrams, photos, code listings, etc. While the content of the <figure> element is related to the main flow, its position is independent of the main flow, and if removed it should not affect the flow of the document.
