F octave clef

[English] This is a normal treble clef symbol with the number 8 printed above or below. The addition of the number 8 directs the musician to perform the music an octave higher than indicated (with the number 8 printed above) or an octave lower than indicated (with the number 8 printed below).

An F-clef can also be notated with an octave marker. While the F-clef notated to sound an octave lower can be used for contrabass instruments such as the double bass and contrabassoon, and the F-clef notated to sound an octave higher can be used for the bass recorder, these uses are extremely rare.

The treble clef, or G clef, is used for the higher sounding notes, usually played with the right hand. The bass clef, or F clef, is used for the lower sounding notes, usually played with the left hand.

Three clef symbols are used today: the treble, bass, and C clefs, stylized forms of the letters G, F, and C, respectively. Music for the tenor voice is usually written in an octave transposing treble clef; a small 8 under the clef indicates that the music is to be sung an octave lower than written: Are you a student?

The bass clef is sometimes called the “F clef”; as seen in Example 3, the dot of the bass clef begins on the F line (the second line from the top).

Why is a treble clef also called a G clef, and a bass clef also called an F clef? They're referred to as such because G clefs indicate the position of the note G, and F clefs indicate the location of F. There is also alto and tenor clef, which are both C clefs.

The bass clef, an F-clef, is used by cello, double bass, bass guitar, bassoon, contrabassoon, bass recorder, trombone, tuba, timpani and some other players.

This is the only F-clef used today so that the terms “F-clef” and “bass clef” are often regarded as synonymous. This clef is used for the cello, euphonium, double bass, bass guitar, bassoon, contrabassoon, trombone, baritone horn, tuba, and timpani.

The bass clef is also known as the F clef, precisely for the reason that it helps mark the F note on the staff. Because of this, it can help to visualize the bass clef as the letter F - the vertical line in the letter is curved and the 2 horizontal strokes become the dots (which mark the location of the F).

The Bass Clef (or “F-clef”) locates the pitch “F” on the fourth line up on the staff. From these two fixed points, all other pitches were calculated and placed on the five-line staff. The bass clef is the first large symbol on the bottom staff, or bass staff, in piano music. The bass clef is also called an F-clef, because it wraps around the highest F note on the bass staff. The bass clef governs bass notes, which fall around middle C and below.
