Allegro is Italian for 'lively' or 'cheerful' and it's a term used on musical scores to indicate that the piece should be played at a relatively fast pace and in a bright and merry manner.

: tender or affecting. used as a direction in music.

So next time you are listening to a piece of music, try to separate out the parts and listen to how each of the Elements of Music are being used. Listen for the Dynamics, Form, Harmony, Melody, Rhythm, Texture, Timbre and Tonality. You might even want to start keeping a listening journal of the music you hear.

The word music comes from the Greek word (mousike), which means "(art) of the Muses". In Ancient Greece the Muses included the goddesses of music, poetry, art, and dance. Someone who makes music is known as a musician.

As we've already mentioned in our first blog post on this topic, the irregular verb piacere literally means to like, as in “to be pleasing to.” Italians use this verb when they want to express the idea that they like something.

my pleasure interjection. A very polite reaction to receiving thanks, meaning that the speaker enjoyed helping the listener. synonyms. it's my pleasure. you're welcome.

amiable adjective. amiable [adjective] likeable; pleasant and good-tempered. kindly [adjective] having or showing a gentle and friendly nature.

more slow Più (Italian: 'more'). A term that can preface an instruction to mean 'more of'. 'Più vivo', meaning 'more lively', or 'Più lento', more slow.

Elements of music include, timbre, texture, rhythm, melody, beat, harmony, structure, tempo, pitch and dynamics.

There are seven of these: Pitch, Duration, Dynamics, Tempo, Timbre, Texture and Structure. Pitch is the degree of highness or lowness of a tone. Duration is the length of time a note lasts for. Dynamics express how loud or quiet the music should be played.
