Wim Mertens is a Flemish Belgian composer , countertenor vocalist, pianist and guitarist, born on May 14th, 1953 in Neerpelt, Belgium. He is known for his minimalist and classical music style, with pieces often featuring repetitive structures and simple melodies. Mertens has released over 60 albums to date and has performed countless concerts both as a soloist and with his ensemble.
Mertens' music has been featured in various films, documentaries, and television soundtracks. He has also been commissioned to create music for stage plays, dance performances, and operas, including his own "The Belly of an Architect" in 1987. Mertens is often inspired by literature, art, and philosophy, and he has said in interviews that his works are reflective of his ideas and beliefs.
