Victor Mass, born Félix-Marie Mass on March 7, 1822, was a French composer. He is best known for his operas, having written about 20 of them throughout his career. Some of his most popular works include "La Chanteuse voilée" (1850) and "Les Noces de Jeannette" (1853).
In addition to his operas , Mass also composed several pieces for the theater, including ballets and incidental music for plays. Though he was primarily known for his light and comedic works, he also wrote serious pieces, such as "Paul et Virginie" (1876), which was based on the novel by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre.
Mass died on July 5, 1884, in Paris, France. He spent much of his life in the city, and his home on Avenue Frochot remained a gathering place for artists and writers long after his death. Despite his success during his lifetime, Mass is not as well-known today as some of his contemporaries, but his contributions to French opera and theater continue to be appreciated by music lovers and historians.
