Full biography Salomon Jadassohn
Salomon Jadassohn (1831-1902) was a German composer, music theorist, and conductor. He was born into a Jewish family in Breslau, which is now part of Poland, and attended the Leipzig Conservatory where he studied under composers such as Ignaz Moscheles and Felix Mendelssohn.
Jadassohn went on to become a prominent figure in the German music scene of the late 19th century. He was known for his prolific output as a composer, writing operas, symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and solo piano works. Some of his most notable works include his Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor and his Fourth Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 85.
In addition to his work as a composer, Jadassohn was also a respected music theorist and wrote textbooks on various aspects of music theory. His works on counterpoint, harmony, and composition were widely used in music schools across Germany.
Although Jadassohn was primarily known for his work as a composer and teacher, he also conducted various ensembles throughout his career. He became a professor at the Leipzig Conservatory in 1869, and among his students were prominent composers such as Max Bruch, Ferruccio Busoni, Gustav Mahler, and Percy Grainger.
Jadassohn's legacy as a composer and educator is still felt today. His music continues to be performed and recorded, and his theoretical works are still studied by music students around the world.
